Nilambur Municipality is leading the way. Nilambur Municipality Chairman Mr. Saleem Mattummal received the UNESCO certificate from P.V. Abdul Wahab MP. Nilambur Municipality is the smallest city to achieve UNESCO's global status.

The project operations will begin by the end of November. P.V. Abdul Wahab MP, Chairman of Jan Sikshan Sansthan (JSS) Malappuram—the nodal agency of the project—and Ummerkoya, Nodal Officer and JSS Director, explained the project activities. Financial assistance of up to ₹80 crore is expected from national and international agencies. Comprehensive educational activities will be implemented in the Nilambur Municipality area. The project will be jointly executed by JSS and Nilambur Municipality. Nilambur's entry into the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities will pave the way for holistic development centered on education. The Chairman of Nilambur Municipality, Mr. Saleem Mattummal, received the UNESCO certificate from P.V. Abdul Wahab MP.
